Case Study: Home. One & Green DiningTM

Green DiningTM spent six weeks with Home. One Cafe in Brunswick, from April to June 2018. Home. One is a small 10x2m hole in the wall café located at the bottom of Nightingale (6 Florence Street, Brunswick) and exist as a social hospitality venture, with profits directed to initiatives supporting efforts relieving youth homelessness and food insecurity in Victoria.  As a socially minded business they are very passionate about food sustainability and believe in a responsibility to reduce their environmental impact by considering a triple bottom line approach to hospitality.    The Results:

  • SAVINGS OF $500 PER MONTH across the business

  • OVER 55% OF THE menu is NOW BEING sourced locally

  • 25% reduction in food waste

  • eliminated 95% OF ON-SITE toxic chemicals

This comprehensive strategy offers us the resources, support and opportunity to hone our point of difference in the hospitality industry as a social and environmentally focused business that is not simply focused on gross profit margins, but reducing our impact holistically. It also presents us with a platform to lead by example as to how hospitality ventures can support local growers, reduce food waste, educate the community and advocate for more sustainable work practices in the industry.
